During this project I looked for a visualisation of a very specific feeling. The feeling of a safe space, my own safe space. The longing of physical touch played a big rol in this project. A reaction to the first lockdown of the Covid-19 pandemic. I searched for a soft and tactile response in a world where we could not touch. Seeing our loved ones through digital screens and facemasks.
That resulted in hand punched carpets made of second hand wool. Undefinable, sometimes maybe weird, stuffed animals and creatures. Is it a dog? Or maybe an elephant? Or something else entirely?
Personally for me, I’ll only get through times like these if I keep making. Knitting, punching, and weaving. Only by doing, do you know what to do.
